Just before the birth of our first child friends and family passed around a small blank notebook. In it they recorded parenting advice, mostly of the possibly practical but certainly silly nature. It was fun. I particularly liked the stuff about a parent’s responsibility to embarrass their teenager.
With the highly anticipated début of Miss BSparl, I suggest that her mom’s online friends offer our brilliance on the topic of child rearing. Having been raised ourselves, I submit we all have more than sufficient expertise. Some of us may even have experience raising kids who successfully moved out of our houses. With our wisdom in hand Kerri and Chris need only do the polar opposite of our suggestions to be assured total parenting success.

Have someone pick up a copy of the newspaper for a cool BSparl memory.
ReplyDeleteRemember that you're meant to have the baby come out. It may be scary. It may seem unnatural. But it's supposed to happen.
ReplyDeleteI warned hubby to stay North of the equator during the whole birthing experience....I think it saved our love life!
ReplyDeleteYou can do this. You are just the latest in the endless chain of women who have done this. Take comfort in their number and allow them to lend you their strength.
ReplyDeleteone word-epidural. these things are wonderful. course its been 14 yrs since my last.
ReplyDeleteTake snacks for Dad to have during the labor process. He will not want to leave your side and will be using up his own glucose store. No reason for him to have a "natural" low and pass out on you...
ReplyDeleteConsider bringing one of those nursing pillows -- seems extraneous, but it helped position the baby better and hurt significantly less than allowing the baby to lay on the c-section incision.
ReplyDeleteBuy the newspaper on the day she was born. Keep the front page.
ReplyDeleteRemember that millions of women over time have done this and so can you. This minute will pass, this hour will pass and you will get through it all. You will be stronger than you ever thought. You will join the club of mothers in this world. No matter what pain comes your way, you will get through it and BSparl will be wonderful.
Oh and the c-section. Cover your scar with a pillow when you laugh. It hurts less. Then you will immediately tell people to stop making you laugh.
Keep the camera with you at the hospital.... not at home with hubby... we learnt that lesson the harder way....
ReplyDeleteAnd after the c-section start walking as soon as you can. It makes a world of difference (says she who spent 2 days flat on her back after 1, and was up fast after the 2nd).
I know you have been crazy careful about even an advil, but if you have the C-section, take all the meds prescribed. It will help you feel better and heal faster. Remember, a healthy baby is the goal. It doesn't matter how she gets here.
ReplyDeleteHave Chris wear sneakers to the hospital. Though you'll be in bed, he'll be on his feet a lot... eagerly responding to your ever need!
